Yankees vs Red Sox: Who’s Line-Up is Better?
Who is the hottest team in baseball right now?
Without a doubt, it is the New York Yankees who have won 15 of their last 16 games.
Who has been the best team in baseball thus far in 2018?
That would be the Boston Red Sox, who are still a game up on the Bombers in the AL East.
With the Red Sox heading to the Bronx for a three-game set, the Yankees have the chance to steal the top spot from their long-time rival but it won’t be easy.
Looking at both team’s batting stats for this season thus far, the two are matched up alright. (stats courtesy of baseball-reference.com)
The two real differences are in strikeouts and walks. The Yanks are definitely earning a reputation of being strikeout machines, having whiffed about 70 more times then the Red Sox.
But heavy hitting line-ups can draw a lot of walks, and New York has done that with 40 more strolls to first in contrast to Boston.
Overall, the Red Sox bats are more consistent, so the advantage does go to Boston but not overwhelmingly.
RED SOX = A
YANKEES = a high B+
If the Yankees can cut down on those strikeouts, cough-cough Giancarlo Stanton, you would be hard pressed not to name them the team to beat.
The likelihood of this fix happening starting tomorrow would be deemed a legit miracle. But without question this is not the same Yankees team that lost two of three back in April at Fenway. So the Red Sox better have their egos checked at the door.
The bottom-line here is this series is a must-see for all baseball fans, as nothing is better then a heated match-up between these two.
