Two Major Stars Debut in WWE this Past Weekend
The road to WrestleMania started at the Royal Rumble last night. Roman Reigns defended his title in the Royal Rumble match, with the odds stacked against him. Triple H ended up winning the Rumble and the title, which is a pretty big deal. Before the end result of the match however, some major rumblings were made. This past weekend, WWE introduced two highly touted wrestlers into their organization: Austin Aries and A.J. Styles!
“The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived” last worked for TNA, where he had been a world champion. He was also a former two-time Ring of Honor Champion, the first man to hold the title twice. The master of the Brainbuster is a workhorse who loves to perform his absolute best inside the ring. At 37, he is looking to cash in and show the entire world how good he really is.
It appears he has signed an NXT deal, where he will fight with some of the best young talent WWE has to offer. Depending on how long his deal with the company is, we could see great matches with the young Baron Corbin, the NXT Champion Finn Balor or even someone he is used to facing, Samoa Joe. Known as someone who likes a challenge, the Aries signing is a game changer.
Known simply as “The Phenomenal One”, the Styles Clash specialist debuted last night at the Royal Rumble, entering at number three. His signing was teased about for weeks by WWE, and fans were waiting for A.J. to finally grace a WWE ring. The former TNA, NWA and IWGP Champion is looking to make every moment count after reportedly signing a multiyear deal with WWE and the main roster.
Styles got his first taste of WWE back in 2002, when he faced off against The Hurricane.
He has definitely come a long way since that match. In an article posted by WWE, the company welcomed the signing with open arms. They stated, “Styles arrives to WWE as a highly skilled veteran with the same agility and desire as that novice grappler who once stared down The Hurricane on WWE Metal. After conquering the independent circuit and Japan, AJ Styles wants to show WWE why he’s so phenomenal. Hold on tight.” Like the WWE Universe, I am extremely excited to see what A.J. has to offer. Whoever he faces will help give younger audience members a glimpse of what they have missed out on.
These two signings are huge for WWE. Once thought untouched, the hottest free agents have landed in WWE’s airspace and are ready to take off. Who knows, this could be start of a new trend where more highly touted wrestlers make their way to WWE’s Connecticut office.
2016 is starting off on a high note for WWE. Let’s see what else they have in store for us.
