Three fights removed from UFC 223 after Conor McGregor incident

It was a stressful day for the UFC, as drastic changes had to be made to UFC 223

As expected, the fallout from Conor McGregor’s attack at the UFC 223 Media Day is not good. Not only is it a bad look on McGregor, but the entire UFC. Now, several fights scheduled to take place have been cancelled due to damage sustained by the melee.

First, Artem Lobov, who apparently helped Conor wreak havoc, is off the show. As reported before, McGregor’s outburst stemmed from Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team confronting Lobov. He was scheduled to face Alex Caceres, who the UFC did not decide to get another opponent for.

Two more fights are off, both due to injury. Michael Chiesa, who ended up having lacerations on his face from broken glass, has been ruled out of his fight against Anthony Pettis. The call was made by the NYSAC.

Ray Borg, scheduled to face Brandon Moreno, was also pulled off of the card. After the incident, Borg was complaining about shards of glass in his eyes.

Due to the cancellations, several fights had to be moved to balance out the card. Zabit Magomedsharipov v. Kyle Bochniak was moved to the main card. Another change includes Ashlee Evans-Smith v. Bec Rawlings moving to the FS1 prelims after starting on he Fight Pass prelims.

There are now ten fights scheduled for the show, before the weigh-ins take place.

At first glance, the UFC did a great job thinking on the fly. However, it is extremely unfair for several fighters who worked hard for the event to not even be able to compete. It is unknown if any of the fighters will be receiving their show money for the card. From the look of things, Conor may end up providing them with money they lost, if that is the direction they plan on going with.

The next few hours should be extremely entertaining, but stressful for the UFC, as they look to regain momentum after a terrible day.
