Starting Wentz Over Foles Wrong Decision for Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles will more likely than not start quarterback Carson Wentz over Super Bowl MVP quarterback Nick Foles in 2018. That may come back to bite them.

Wentz got the Eagles off to a 11-2 start in 2017 before tearing his ACL against the Los Angeles Rams. Looking back at his rookie season, however, he may not be the quarterback everyone thinks he is.

Wentz and the Eagles got off to a hot 3-0 start in 2016, his rookie season. After that, however, Wentz finished the season with nine touchdown passes and 14 interceptions in the final 14 games. Philadelphia would go on to finish 8-8 and miss the postseason.

Foles, on the other hand, has seen more success as a starting quarterback in the NFL, as hard as it is to believe. In the 2013 season, Foles threw 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions leading the Eagles in his first venture with the team. He would start again to start the 2014 season, but was knocked out for the season with a broken collarbone. Before that, however, he got the Eagles off to a 6-2 start.

He didn’t do so well in St Louis, but still threw for 2,052 yards. In Kansas City, he sat behind Alex Smith, throwing for 410 yards and three touchdowns in three games.

Taking over for Wentz, he threw for 537 yards and five touchdowns in seven starts, including an impressive postseason. He also threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns against a Bill Belichick-led New England Patriots defense. He also caught a touchdown on a Trey Burton pass.

If the Eagles didn’t want to suffer the same fate as the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons before them, a Super Bowl hangover, they would start Foles Week 1 when they host the Falcons on opening night. Their opening game against Atlanta is a rematch of the 2017 NFC Divisional Playoff game.
