Somerset remains undefeated on the road

After they accumulated a 814-mile roundtrip journey over their first road trip of the new season, the Somerset Patriots are proving to be a formidable opponent to the other seven teams in the Atlantic League.

They went a perfect 5-0 on their road trip away from TD Bank Ballpark and are the only remaining team with an undefeated road record.

Over the seven-day span, there were many notable performances that contributed to the Patriots’ success which they look to carry into their second homestand of the year.

Their bats are constantly connecting

Somerset Infielder Will Kengor has been sensational currently sporting a league-best .475 (19-for-40) batting average. In the series finale against the York Revolution, Kengor got Somerset on the board with a RBI double in the sixth inning.

The services of leadoff man Craig Massey along with Alfredo Rodriguez have boosted the Patriots nicely during the road trip as well. Rodriguez blasted his first home run of the season in game two of the York series to give Somerset a 5-0 lead and help them win it 9-4.

Ramon Flores recorded his eighth RBI of the season in the seventh inning to put the Patriots up 3-2 in the finale verses York.

Catcher Mike Ohlman had a strong game against the New Britain Bees on May 3 going 4-for-5 with three RBIs. He also had a five-game hit streak to begin the his first campaign with the Patriots.

Pitching gem upon gems

As a team, Somerset has the second lowest ERA in the league at 3.31 and have allowed the fewest hits with 91.

The Patriots rotation, along with the impeccable defense behind them, silenced the Revolution to score only two runs over eight innings. The bullpen closed out game three verses York strong recording 12 of their 14 strikeouts. The Patriots improved to 3-0 in one-run games.

Somerset’s pitching only allowed 19 hits by the Bees in the two games. The third game of the series was canceled due to rain.

After taking two against New Britain, and sweeping York for the first time since 2017, Somerset heads into their homestead riding a seven-game win streak where they’ll face the Lancaster Barnstormers and High Point Rockers.
