Official: Mathias Jørgensen to New York Red Bulls
On February 12, 2019, New York Red Bulls announced the club’s latest addition, Mathias Jørgensen. The 18-year-old forward from Denmark joins the Red Bulls as the youngest rostered first-team player in 2019.
Mathias comes from Danish club, Odense Boldklub. The six-foot forward was signed to a multi-year MLS contract. Mathias will join the team once he receives his ITC and P-1 Visa.
Jørgenson’s professional debut for Odense’s first team was at 17-years of age. In 572 minutes with the first team, he tallied three goals in 18 matches. Prior to joining the first team, in OB’s U-19 squad, he tallied 28 goals in 25 matches. For the Odense Boldklub reserve squad, he scored nine goals in nine games. In conclusion, Mathias is efficient and is a promising attacking player for the Red Bulls.
A European player to join an MLS team is still an odd thing to see. However, the move from Europe to American soccer is increasing in popularity. For example, former NYCFC star, Jack Harrison is a prime example of a European-born player to play in the MLS and move back to Europe. He now plays for Leeds United and is on loan from the famous, Manchester City. In other words, the New York Red Bulls are optimistic about their investment.
RBNY are hopeful to develop Jørgensen and mirror Jack Harrison’s journey in the MLS.
