The National Women’s Hockey League announced the schedule for the 2017-2018 season on Tuesday with all four teams playing 16 games apiece in season three.
Opening day will be on October 28 as the New York Riveters will host the inaugural Isobel Cup Champion, Boston Pride, at 2:00 PM, at the RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House in Newark, New Jersey. The Connecticut Whale will face off against defending Isobel Cup Champions, Buffalo Beauts at 2:30 PM, at Terry Conners Rink, in Stamford, Connecticut.
The third season of the league will feature one Friday game, Whale at Pride on February 2, 19 Saturday matchups, and 12 Sunday faceoffs. Two neutral site games will take place during the 2017-2018 season, as the Whale will battle the Beauts in the Pittsburgh suburb of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex on Sunday January 14 at 2:00 PM and the Riveters will square off against the Beauts at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex in Rochester, New York, Saturday November 4 at 7:30 PM.
The 2018 NWHL All Star Game will take place on the weekend of February 10 and 11 in a yet to be determined rink. The league will announce the location of the all-star game within the next few weeks. The 2017 NWHL All Star Game took place at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex while the 2016 event was played at the HarborCenter in Buffalo, New York, the home of the Beauts and practice facility of the National Hockey League’s, Buffalo Sabres.
Three of the four home rinks for the league are also practice facilities in the NHL. Barnabas Health Hockey House is the New Jersey Devils practice arena, Warrior Ice Arena is the practice home of the Boston Bruins and the Sabres use HarborCenter for their practices.
Besides being able to stream the games on the league’s website at https://www.nwhl.zone/, Twitter will also stream one game per week in the NWHL Twitter Game of the Week. The Twitter stream can be found at nwhl.twitter.com or via @nwhl. The broadcast schedule will be released shortly.
The postseason schedule is set for the weekend of March 17, with the 2018 Isobel Cup Final set for the weekend of March 24.
