King’s Landing may have another competitor for its Iron Throne. Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard is set to appear in HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ this upcoming season. He will be playing an extra on the hit show.
Syndergaard is known as the Marvel hero Thor to many. He appeared on Kevin James’ CBS sitcom, ‘Kevin Can Wait’, wearing a Thor costume. He’s also been called the ace of the Mets. Now he’ll add another title to his name. According to Ken Davidoff of the New York Post, Syndergaard filmed his cameo in Spain in November, after the Mets were eliminated from the postseason in the NL Wild Card Game.
This seems to be a dream come true for Thor. A dominant pitcher on the mound, Thor’s colorful personality can be used on both fronts, and he seems to agree. In a recent interview with the New York Post, Syndergaard discussed his desire to be a part of activities / events outside of baseball. He stated:
“Playing baseball opens up a lot of doors for certain things. I just kind of want to embrace those certain things, whether it’s acting or doing something outside of baseball that allows you to show your personality.”
While these opportunities are great, Syndergaard knows what the end game is. All the TV roles in the world won’t bring a title to Flushing, and he knows that. If he can find a balance between acting and the game of baseball, then the Mets will be very happy.
This won’t be the only time that the MLB will be associated with ‘Game of Thrones’. A report came out recently that MLB would be having ‘Game of Thrones’ theme nights. This would be a very interesting way to enhance relationships between different brands.
Now that he will be on the show, I think it’s appropriate to call him the new King in the North. Even if we can’t call him that, at least he’ll be able to ride a dragon, right?
