New York Giants Fumble Away Win Against Jacksonville Jaguars
The New York Giants hosted the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday afternoon in the first game for both teams of the 2018 season. The game was played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The biggest storyline going into this game was to be the matchup between Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr and Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
When it came to the game, Ramsey didn’t match up with the Giants star wideout. Beckham finished with 11 catches for 111 yards. It was a defensive battle most of the game, however, as most of the first half was the two teams exchanging field goals.
Jacksonville got in the end zone first at the end of the first half when Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles found TJ Yeldon for a short touchdown. The Giants kicked a field goal and the Jaguars led 13-6 at halftime.
The lone score of the third quarter was a Giants field goal. In the fourth quarter, a pick-six by Myles Jack gave the Jaguars a comfortable lead late. Giants running back Saquon Barkley ran for a 68-yard touchdown to bring it to a 20-15 game.
Unfortunately, the Giants muffed a punted inside one minute and the Jaguars would recover. A few knees later, the Jaguars left with a 20-15 win. They will host the New England Patriots. New York will travel to take on the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday night.
Not All Bad For Big Blue
While they couldn’t come out with a win, it wasn’t all bad for the Giants. Their defense still played very well. Janoris Jenkins recorded an interception and the Jaguars were forced to punt on five consecutive drives at one stretch.
On offense, Eli Manning completed an average of 6.1 yards per pass and Beckham had over 100 receiving yards. Barkley also rushed for 100 yards in his debut. The Giants also had many opportunities throughout the game, but there were a couple drops from the receivers.
