Monday Night Debacle: Indianapolis Colts Steamroll Jets In Primetime
East Rutherford, New Jersey – In a game that started with half of MetLife Stadium empty and tickets being sold on the third market sites like StubHub for six dollars, this game got out of hand early. After the New York Jets offense came out stagnant, “Petty, Petty, Petty” chants echoed the stadium from the die hand fans.
The fans voiced their opinion on what they think of the 2016 Jets in this game by selling their tickets at a low price on third market sites such as StubHub and leaving the stadium empty. Both of these things show that the fans have checked out the rest of the way and this came at the wrong time which is right before a primetime game on Monday Night Football. Not only did the fans check out this season, but the way this game went for the Jets some can make a argument that the team has quit. Not only on their coach, but on themselves.
There are many issues to talk about such as the three penalties to open the game, the early three-and-outs from the Jets offense that gave the Colts’ good field position, the blown coverages on defense, or the kick return to start the game that clearly should not have been brought out. All of these things contributed to the Jets’ loss to an average Indianapolis Colts team, but the team just simply did not play to their talent that they have on the team. The Jets came out flat in primetime and gave an embarrassing effort on the field.
Sure, the Jets have not had a good season as they have had things that did not go their way early on and they had to deal with injuries such as a big injury to one of their best receivers’ in Eric Decker. Both of these things did not happen a year ago for this team as they were able to avoid the injury bug and for the most part were able to keep everyone healthy. The effort that the team gave on Monday night was downright disgusting to watch and this was not the same Jets team that we saw last year or so far this season. This is the first time that this Jets team has hit rock bottom with Todd Bowles at the helm and has some heads turning on where to go from here.
There is some blame to go around here and the tabloids this morning are all gunning for Bowles head and that he should be fired for this bad loss. Sure, the coaching has a blame in this lost season, but this loss should be on the players too as there was zero execution. There was also no willingness to win, heart, or grit in this team this year. There is not even an identity for the 2016 Jets and last year that was not the case. Todd Bowles is committed to at least one more year as the head coach of the New York Jets and he will have a chance to fix this in a hurry as the rest of the season now becomes evaluating what they have for 2017 and beyond.
The Jets will finally get the chance to see what they have in second year quarterback out of Baylor, Bryce Petty as Bowles informed reporters last night that he will start the last quarter of the season. Even though it may be difficult to bring positives out of this debacle last night. the Jets fans will be able to see what they have in their younger quarterback the rest of the way. For the Jets coaching staff, this loss means it is time to go back to the drawing board and re-think of a different plan that is going to make the Jets a winner in the upcoming future. Even though it was a embarrassing loss on primetime television there is no where else go , but up for the New York Jets.
The Jets fell to 3-9 on the season and the Colts improved to 6-6 on the year. Next up for the Jets is a west coast trip to San Francisco to take on the 49ner’s (1-12) who also have had a tough year or an equally tough year as the Jets did.
