The New York Liberty continue to tweak their roster to get that perfect blend of youth and experience.

They got smarter on the court as a result of the resigning of 6-1 forward, Swin Cash. Acquired in a trade last year, the Liberty are pleased to have her from the outset this time. Senior VP of business and basketball operations, Kristin Bernert feels her leadership will be crucial in 2015.

“Throughout her career, Swin has been known for her leadership on the court and in the community, and by no coincidence, championships have followed,” said Bernert.  “We’re happy to have her back and know she’s going to make great contributions to our team this season.”

Head coach Bill Laimbeer,  who often mentioned last season that if he had Swin at the outset last year that it may have been a different result, is a Cash supporter.

“Swin understands the game and how it should be played, and she can play multiple positions,” said Laimbeer. “Even more than that, she has a will to win and a commitment to excellence that is unmatched.”

Swin, a three time WNBA champion and four-time All-Star, is entering her 14th campaign. She brings scoring and another defensive player reputation, something that the Liberty have been earmarking throughout all their acquisitions. Cash will join Tina Charles in the front court or bring depth to the scoring forward position should Essence Carson not be ready. The signing will also allow Talbert to focus on rebounding and being a physical presence.

For the Liberty its another move that makes sense.
