Let’s Be Frank: The Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest Is Awesome
It is a tradition like no other, the Super Bowl of competitive eating. It is the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.
On the 4th of July at noon in Coney Island and on ESPN 2, millions will be watching as some of the most impressive athletes in the world stuff their stomachs with massive amounts of hot dogs and buns at the annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.
One of the greatest American champions of all time, Joey “Jaws’ Chestnut will look to defend his crown and take home mustard yellow international belt number eleven, after a record-breaking performance at last year’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. His only competition figures to be Matt “The Megatoad” Stonie who upset Chestnut in 2015 and Carmen Cincotti who finished second in 2017.
Chestnut set a new record of 74 hot dogs eaten in 10 minutes at the annual contest in 2018, breaking his own record of 72 set in 2017. Chestnut will be looking to break his own record again in 2019.
Joey Chestnut, who has won 11 of the last 12 years, is the favorite in the latest 2019 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds, going off at -888 on the money line to win the men’s championship, meaning an $888 wager on him to win would return $100. You can back the field — every other competitor in the event — at +616 (risk $100 to win $616).

On the women’s side, Miki Sudo will be going for the six-peat and is favored at -1229, with the field at +779. Sudo’s main competition is Sonya Thomas who is also a three-time champ.
The over-under on dogs and buns eaten is 73.5 in the men’s contest and 38.5 for the women.
