La Salle Women’s Hoops Drop Two Conference Road Games
La Salle fell to Duquesne and Rhode Island as their conference record moved to 1-5.
Last Wednesday La Salle women’s basketball traveled to Pittsburgh to continue Atlantic 10 play against Duquesne. After a trying first two quarters at the A.J. Palumbo Center, the Explorers eventually fell to the Dukes 78-50.
The Explorers were off to a great start with an assist from Shaquana Edwards to Adreana Miller who sunk an early three. That was until the Dukes responded with an easy layup to bring the game to 3-2. The game was a close contest for the first two quarters until Duquesne pulled away after the half and never looked back.
Miller was the only Explorer player to finish in double figures pouring in a season-high 25 points. Shalina Miller added nine points while Edwards finished with seven points and four assists.
Cassidy Omogrosso led Duquesne with 23 points. She went 9-for-14 from the field and 4-for-5 from beyond the three-point line.
The Dukes were the more precise team shooting as they shot 30-for-58 from the floor and 10-for-21 from beyond the arc.
La Salle aimed to turn things around for their next matchup at the Ryan Center against Rhode Island. Although the Explorers had four players within the double figures, it was not enough to outscore the Rams. They took a tough 72-63 loss on Saturday afternoon.
Adreana Miller led the team again in scoring with 14 points. Edwards and Shalina Miller trailed behind with 13 and 12 points respectively. Edwards had a season-high four three-pointers. S. Miller also went 6-for-7 from the field. Amy Griffin finished with a respectable 11 points. A season-high of four three-pointers added to Edwards 13 points.
It was a close contest for the first three quarters of the game. The fourth quarter is where the game began to heat up. It was tied at 58 in the fourth quarter until the Rams went on an 11-2 run. La Salle could not respond to the run as the Rams continued to score without much contest.
After two tough losses on the road, La Salle will return home to face off against VCU at 12 p.m. at the Tom Gola Arena.
