John Cena to Undergo Shoulder Surgery, Will Likely Miss WrestleMania
In breaking and devastating news for WWE, John Cena will undergo shoulder surgery, potentially missing WrestleMania 32 on April 3rd in Dallas, Texas. This year’s show is considered the biggest event of all time for WWE. Cena announced the news via his Twitter account, and WWE continued in an article on WWE.com. The surgery is to fix a torn rotator cuff.
The news is a huge blow for WWE. Cena had just returned to the company this past December after taking time off to film his FOX reality competition series. This will be the first WrestleMania without John Cena’s involvement since WrestleMania 19.
Add Cena to the list of talent that has been infected with the injury bug. Nikki Bella, Seth Rollins, Sting, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro and Randy Orton are a few of many major superstars that join Cena on the injury list for WWE.
What does this mean for the company? There were rumors of Cena facing The Undertaker, which now must be altered. Younger talent like Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, Neville and Roman Reigns will now have to carry the company on their backs for the time being. With news that The Rock will be at this year’s WrestleMania, one has to assume he will now play a much larger part at the event. I’m sure the company is in a temporary panic mode. However, with enough time until the biggest event of the year, there has to be a backup plan in motion. Good ol’ Jim Ross weighed in on the possibilities:
Only time will tell how long Cena will be out. It is a very unfortunate time for WWE and for Cena. We will have to wait and see how long it will take for both parties to rebound from this.
