Jets hire Dowell Loggains as Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach
The New York Jets brought in a familiar face to be the Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach for Gang Green. Former Adam Gase protege Dowell Loggains has be brought in to help develop Sam Darnold and what was a stagnant Jets offense.
Loggains has a plethora of experience, backing up Gase in Chicago when Gase was OC there, taking over the position after he left, and taking over as OC in Miami after John Fox was let go in Chicago. While he hasn’t had all that much success, a worn down and disinterested Jay Cutler, a carousel of quarterbacks in Miami, and a frail Ryan Tannehill should at least buy him a year or two with a legitimate quarterback.
We’ll see how it works out, but Adam Gase seems to know what he’s doing. With a hopefully improved offensive line, an extra weapon at wide receiver, and a more experienced, wiser Sam Darnold could be the recipe for a successful offense.
Both Loggains and Gase will be under immense pressure to deliver immediately. Jets fans don’t expect a Super Bowl, but they should expect at least competence. If Darnold is the real deal, this year should be a good test at how far the Jets can go with him. Loggains will be in charge of all that, and it will be a tall task.
