Frankie Edgar to face Champion Max Holloway at UFC 218
The Toms River native is set for third shot at UFC featherweight gold.
Third times a charm? New Jersey’s Frankie Edgar is set for his third attempt at UFC Featherweight gold.
The former lightweight champion will face the UFC Feather champion Max Holloway at UFC 218 on Dec 2. The main event title bout will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported the news Tuesday evening.
Edgar (22-5-1) is on a two fight win streak with wins over Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens. The 35-year-old faced former featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 200 last July. Edgar lost via unanimous decision, making Aldo the interim champion. Edgar’s first shot at the 145-pound strap was in his featherweight debut in February of 2013, when Aldo was the reigning champion.
Holloway (18-3) unified the featherweight strap at UFC 212 in June, where he defeated Aldo via TKO in the third round. The 25-year-old has been on a tear through the division since 2013, where he was last defeated by Conor McGregor at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen.
