Daniel Jacobs set for Middleweight Title fight in October inside MSG
Jacobs will look for his third win in a row after losing to GGG back in 2017
We finally have a location for Daniel Jacobs’ return to title contention. It was reported by Boxing News that Jacobs will face Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the IBF Middleweight Title on October 27 inside the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden.
Originally thought to take place on Long Island, The World’s Most Famous Arena will have to do. The championship used to belong to Gennady Golovkin before he was stripped of it in June. The fight was a tough one to make, but both Lou DiBella and Eddie Hearn managed to come together to make it all happen. DiBella commented on the monumental agreement.
“Eddie Hearn and I closed a deal for one of the best fights that can be made in the middleweight division. Imagine that — Eddie and I co-promoting a big fight! He’s still a cheeky little bastard, but I look forward to a big card and some good, nasty back and forth.”
This will be Jacobs’ (34-2) third fight back since losing to GGG in 2017. With 29 wins via KO, Jacobs will look to make Sergiy “The Technician” Derevyanchenko (12-0) victim number 30.
While the Hulu Theater is a smaller venue compared to the actual MSG arena and the Barclays Center, it should not detract both fighters. They are used to New York crowds (Jacobs being local), and with word of mouth, the fight can draw a lot of fans in.
