Junior Damien Lee led Drexel with a season-high 33 points as the Dragons knocked off Northeastern 65-60. The Huskies entered the game with a 14-8, 6-3 record, tied for first in the Colonial Athletic Association.

With 45 seconds left in the game, it was Lee who stepped up to make 10 straight free throws. He finished 12-12 from the line for the night, his third time this season with a perfect FT%. The star of the Dragons roster, as been for many games, was junior Damien Lee. He was not only 12-12 from the line, but 9-16 from the field. He has scored 42 of his last 43 attempts over the last few games. Great news for Coach Bruiser Flint, Lee is only a redshirt junior.

The Calvert Hall College High School graduate, Baltimore native, was named the CAA Rookie of the Year after an impressive breakout season. In his first year, he averaged 12 points and 4.4 rebounds. His first career double-double, and certainly not his last, came in the Conference championship game against VCU with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Lee’s amazing rookie season continued into his sophomore year where his impressive play led to post season conference accolades. He was ranked third in the CAA for points per game, second for FT%, and sixth for three point percentage. Unfortunately, due to a knee injury during the NIT Season Tip-Off, Lee had to redshirt his third year, but that did not slow him down at all entering the 2014-2015 season.

In his redshirt junior season, Damien Lee has not missed a beat. Just last week he received conference Co-Player of the Week for his spectacular performance for the Dragons. Last week, Damien Lee tallied a game-high 27 points, seven rebounds in an unfortunate 18 point loss to Hofstra. On Saturday, the Dragons bounced back against the College of Charleston. Lee knocked down a game-winning three-pointer with just 17 seconds left in the game. He led his team to a 53-51 victory over the Cougars with 21 points. For the two games, the junior played all but two minutes and had another impressive shooting percentage. It is of no surprise that Lee is now the 15th on the scoring list for the Dragons program with 1, 384 with the remainder of this season and next season left to move up in the ranks.

Damien Lee and the Drexel Dragon’s take on the UNCW Seahawks on Saturday, January 31 where they look to gain their fourth conference win. Tip-off takes place at 4 p.m. at the Daskalaskis Athletic Center.
