Jon Jones v. Daniel Cormier (MMA Weekly)

After breaking news Wednesday morning of Jon Jones’ B-sample testing positive for steroids, action has been taken.

The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has oveturned Jones’ rematch with Daniel Cormier to a no-contest. was first to report the news.

The former UFC light-heavyweight champion tested positive the steroid, Turinabol, on July 28. News broke nearly a month later of the violation.

This is the first no-contest in Jones’ professional career. This is also potentially the third time he’ll be stripped of the UFC light-heavyweight title (the second time being the UFC interim light-heavyweight title).

With the main event bout being made a no-contest, many would think Cormier would retain his title. The UFC has yet to make a statement regarding the future of the 205-pound belt.

For Cormier, this could be a career changing moment. By regaining the title, the loss would be scratch from his record, but the 3rd round TKO cannot be. Unfortunately, DC has barely been respected by fight fans. Many even refer to him as a “paper champ”. The phrase claiming he is not a real champion since he never defeated Jones, and he still hasn’t.

There is also the option that the UFC decides to vacate the belt all together.

What is best for the division?

When you think of the light-heavyweight division, only a handful of memorable names come to mind. Only a handful that could be serious contenders for the light-heavyweight gold.

In this case, is the best move to return the belt to Cormier? Or is it to vacate and move forward?

Sound off below! Stay tuned to for updates.
