Carli Lloyd Scores 100th International Career Goal

Houston, TX — Sunday, April 8 was no ordinary day for Carli Lloyd. During the international soccer friendly where the U.S Women’s National Team defeated Mexico 6-2, Lloyd scored her 100th international career goal.

There are only five other USWNT players she joins, that have reached this milestone: Abby Wambach (184), Mia Hamm (158), Kristine Lilly (130), Michelle Akers (107) and Tiffany Milbrett (100).

Lloyd is also a two-time FIFA World Player of the Year, World Cup Champion, and a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist.

Historic and Emotional Moment for Lloyd

The New Jersey native and Sky Blue FC soccer player did not hide her emotions after scoring her historic 100th goal. She thanked the fans and kissed the soccer ball she used to score. “Crazy. It’s been a long journey, a great journey,” Lloyd said when asked what the 100 goals meant for her. “Thanks to my teammates, coaches, fans, everybody; they definitely played a role,” she added.

Sky Blue FC did not wait to congratulate her:

James Galanis, Lloyd’s biggest influence and long time trainer, also took to Twitter to express how proud he was of this historic moment. He also stated how hard it is for players to accomplish such milestone:

Carli Lloyd’s next appearance will be with her NWSL team, Sky Blue FC in front of her hometown crowd. SBFC will host Seattle Reign in what will be SBFC home opener. The game on April 15, 5:00pm E.T kickoff time will be played at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, NJ. Lloyd is also expected to be at USWNT’s next friendly game against China on June 7 in Sandy, Utah.
