Bump N’ Run w/KT: Jets Go Back To Fitzpatrick, Giants Win In London And Rutgers Loses Close Game

Another big week in the football world and Bump N’ Run returns to give you all the information you need to know from the week in the pigskin. Let’s begin with one of the biggest soap operas in New York sports.

Jets Win First Game In A Month But Lose Geno For Year

For the entire week leading up to the Jets game against the Ravens, the story was about Geno Smith getting an opportunity to start for New York again. Expectations were low and while Geno started the game 4-for-8 for 95 yards and a touchdown, the saga of Geno Smith’s career continued as he tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. Enter Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Jets’ $12 million backup quarterback, and Gang Green, despite Fitzpatrick’s 28.8 QB Rating, defeated the Baltimore Ravens 24-16 for their first win in four weeks.

Matt Forte continued to be the only consistent offensive weapon the Jets have right now as he ran for 100 yards and scored two touchdowns (one rushing and one receiving). The problem is at quarterback as Fitzpatrick, after starting 7-for-7 in the game, looked ineffective after that stretch and seemed like his confidence was decimated. The Jet defense to their credit held Baltimore to just 245 yards of total offense while forcing three turnovers. But let’s be honest, the story was the Jets quarterback situation which leads me to the next topic.

Fitzpatrick Has To Stop Blaming The Jets Brass For Everything

After the game on Sunday, a “triumphant” Fitzpatrick took his place in front of the media and began to run his mouth about his situation.

“The biggest thing in this game, in order to last, is to have belief in yourself, because when the owner stops believing in you, the GM stops believing in you, and the coaches stop believing in you, sometimes all you have is yourself.”

Yes everyone lost confidence in you Ryan after you threw 11 interceptions in less than six games this season. Your decision making was atrocious this season and you were asking for top-tier quarterback money. Stop complaining and get your game right or you will benched again, this time for Bryce Petty.

Giants Beat Rams In London

Giants’ fans, like me, should probably be happy about going to London and defeating the Los Angeles Rams 17-10. The problem is that when you force a team to turn the ball over four times, your margin of victory should be a hell of a lot more than seven points.

The Giants won ugly and that is becoming common whenever Big Blue wins. Defensively, you finally saw a defensive line playing like they should as the Giants got to Case Keenum three times and Landon Collins continued his breakout season with eight tackles and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. The problem remains offensively as New York is one dimensional with no running game to speak of (36 yards on 20 carries). No clue on what can be done about it at this stage of the season but a running game must be developed if the Giants hope to stay in the NFC East race.

Moving The Chains

  • The Cleveland Browns lost yet anther quarterback when Cody Kessler went down with a concussion. Quarterback number six is Kevin Hogan and the Browns will continue on this season. This is getting sad.
  • I watched the Chinese Arena Football League last week. No clue why I watched or why I’m telling you but I watched it and it was pretty bad.
  • Penn State upset number two ranked Ohio State on Saturday night. Hopefully this will start a chaotic last month-plus of the college football season. This is when it should get good.
  • Rutgers lost to Minnesota on a last second field goal on Saturday to move to 2-6 and 0-5 in conference play this season. I stand by prior articles stating that Rutgers should not be in the Big Ten conference.
