Another Late Inning Collapse Leaves Terry Collins Fuming
The New York Mets have been without David Wright and Ike Davis for some time now. They had also been without Angel Pagan until he recently returned to the lineup. Jose Reyes has been on the bereavement list since Monday.
Mets manager Terry Collins refuses to use that as an excuse. After yet another late inning collapse on Wednesday, Collins was fuming and took his frustration out on the players. The manager laid into his players after Wednesdays 9-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
New York allowed four runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eigth as they suffered their second straight loss. The Mets have won just three of their past ten games and have fallen into fourth place in the National League East, just one game ahead of last place Washington.
Collins is finally letting his frustration be known. He claims to be aware that his team is playing hard, just not executing. When you don’t execute in baseball, it’s generally lack of focus and a failure to perform basic baseball.
“They’re big league players. They should be able to do it,” he added.
