Why Aaron Judge SHOULD be the AL MVP
The AL MVP Race is between Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge and Astros second baseman, Jose Altuve. There are some other names being thrown out there, but these are the two most are focusing.
The reality is, August killed Judge, there’s no better way to put it.
He seemed unstoppable up until the All Star break, but like so many other home run derby winners, he slipped into a bit of a slump. This made Altuve the favorite of many analysts, reporters and fans.
However, let’s look at some of the reasons why Judge should be the MVP.
For starters, he broke Mark McGuire’s rookie homerun record this week with 50 homers — and the season isn’t even over yet.
After Monday’s game, veteran pitcher CC Sabathia talk about the star rookie and his record-breaking season.
“Just look what he’s done, carrying this team to the playoffs,” said Sabathia.
At just 25-year-year’s old the right fielder has done exactly that.
Between his bat, his personality and even his defense, Judge has been the catalyst for this season’s success. He brought the home run back, not just to The Bronx, but he brought it back to baseball. He gives fans a show and the harsh reality is, today’s baseball fans want that six-foot-seven powerhouse. They don’t want to see the quick guy with a bit a pop who hits for average more than power, yes I’m talking exactly about Altuve.
The only reason why Judge is not the slam-dunk MVP favorite is because of his post All-Star break slump. But, when you think about the typical baseball player, it was not much of a slump.
His on base percentage dipped from 1.139 down to .690 – a massive drop yes – but no one stays that perfect for an entire season. Hitters, pitchers, quarterbacks, running backs, point guards, they all have bad games, days and even weeks. That’s not only just sports, but it’s life.
If you’re really going to knock a guy for not having an unheard of on base percentage, then you’re really not thinking realistically.
