Some more information about WWE’s Women’s Tournament has been revealed. Triple H went to Twitter to announce the name for the multi-woman tournament. Unlike the Cruiserweight Classic, the tournament will honor a legendary figure in the business. It will be called The Mae Young Classic.
Triple H also took to Twitter to announce when tickets would go on sale for the tournament. Fans should get ready, for tickets go on sale at 10am ET this Friday for the July 13th and 14th tapings.
Honor the past. Look to the future.

This is a huge honor, paying respect to Hall of Famer Johnnie Mae Young. While many fans nowadays know her for her comedy skits with The Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young was a true pioneer. She was a multi-time champion in the National Wrestling Alliance over her fifty-plus year career. Young also helped women take advantage of the fact that men were fighting during the war by expanding their role in professional wrestling. She did all she could to give women a chance.
WWE sent out a press release regarding the news, with another quote from Triple H. This time, he discussed the importance of the Mae Young Classic, stating:
“The Mae Young Classic will mark a significant moment in the evolution of WWE. We are proud to provide this unique opportunity for the best female talent from around the world.”
Reactions to the news were very positive, coming from all over the wrestling world. While Mae Young didn’t have quite an impact in WWE as The Fabulous Moolah or Trish Stratus did, her impact for women everywhere was much more important of a case.
Still no word on who will be in the tournament, but the recognition of a legend will do for now.
