Viza Keeps Greensboro Grounded In BlueClaws 3-2 Win
Tyler Viza was brilliant in the Lakewood BlueClaws’ 3-2 victory Wednesday night against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at FirstEnergy Park.
Through his longest outing of his career, Viza struck out three batters and allowed six hits tossing seven innings of shutout baseball. Viza did not issue a walk in the game either. He lowered his ERA to 3.71 and picked up his first win of the season.
Lakewood got on the board in the fifth inning when Carlos Tocci hit a single to score both Larry Greene, Jr. and Willians Astudillo.
The BlueClaws would push the lead to three runs in the seventh inning when Gabriel Lino hit a solo home run off of Greensboro reliever Joel Effertz.
Greensboro would try to mount a comeback, though.
In relief, Manuare Martinez allowed the first three batters of the ninth inning to reach base. Tyler Buckley relieved Martinez but allowed a Kentrell Dewitt double to score Juan Avila and Chad Wallach.
With one out, Cody Forsythe came into the game and struck out Carlos Lopez and got Avery Romero to ground out to seal the victory. Forsythe picked up his second save of the season.
Lakewood (4-8) finishes its first home stand of the season with two wins. The BlueClaws will hit the road for a three-game series against the Hagerstown Suns, a team which swept them this past weekend.
