Philadelphia Union’s Alejandro Bedoya has been called into the United States Men’s National Team for their March qualifiers. These games are incredibly important to not only get points from but win. The US sits in last place with zero points from their first two games. Nobody is truly worried we will miss the World Cup, but in a world where Donald Trump is President, you never know what will happen.
Bedoya will have to make up quickly with Jozy Altidore as the two competed against each other on the field last week in a 2-2 draw, and on Twitter after the game. Bedoya called out Altidore for diving in the box, only for Altidore to make some not-so-loving comments back.
Before today, Bedoya was probably going to see a little bit of time on the pitch for the US, but with Fabian Johnson going down with a calf strain, it’s almost certain Bedoya will start in the midfield.
US will open their weekend of games against Honduras 3/24 at 10:30pm EST. They will close out the next week in Panama 3/28 at 10pm EST.
Also, a critical injury occurred in Union practice today as new recruit Jay Simpson was rushed to the hospital after he started spitting up blood. It’s confirmed the striker has a bruised lung and may be out for the foreseeable future.
Make sure to tune in Saturday at 7:30 as the Union take on Orlando City in their new home. The crowd and stadium will make for great television, and hopefully lift the Union to want to hush the crowd.
