The Somerset Patriots will be sending three players from their team to the Atlantic League All-Star Game. The game will be played on July 16th. The three players are catcher Adam Donachie, third baseman Corey Smith, and pitcher Matt Zielinski. They will play for the East Coast team in the All-Star game.

Donachie, so far in the first half of the season, has a batting average of .290, with five home runs and 30 RBI’s. He is fourth on the team in terms of RBI’s and  his batting average. Donachie’s selection to the All-Star game was mostly based on his play behind the plate, where he is one of the best defensive catchers in the Atlantic League

Smith has been, without a doubt, the best hitter for the Patriots so far this season. In the first half of the season, Smith was hitting an even .300 with eight home runs and 45 RBI’s. He leads the Patriots in all of those categories and also leads the team in on-base percentage and walks, as well. His 45 RBI’s rank fifth in the Atlantic League.

Lastly, starting pitcher Matt Zielinski is 7-3 at this point in the season, with a 2.95 ERA. He leads the Patriots in wins and starters ERA. His ERA ranks second in the Atlantic League, and his seven wins tie him for third most in the league, as well.

Last week, the Patriots clinched the first half Liberty Division in the Atlantic League. This earns them a spot in the Liberty Division Series in the Atlantic League Playoffs. The Patriots went 46-23 in the first half of the season and are currently 2-3 in the second half of the season.

Hi my name is Steven Bassin and I am happy to have an internship at Double G Sports this summer. I am currently going into my junior year at Fairleigh Dickinson University where I am majoring in Communications with a minor in Multimedia Journalism. I have been involved with sports my whole life. I am currently a college football player at Fairleigh Dickinson University, but also participated in baseball and wrestling in high school as well. I am big New York football Giants and New York Yankees, but I am most importantly a sports fan who follows every team or player for NFL,MLB,NBA, and Minor League Baseball. If you need any facts or information about a team or player in those sports I am the guy to ask. I can tell you where a player is from, to where he went to college, to even his strength & weaknesses on the field. I am really looking forward to being a part of Double G Sports this summer and can't wait to start writing about sports.
