Sky Blue FC Announces Reserve Team
Sky Blue FC announced on Wednesday that they will form an official reserve team comprised of elite-level college and amateur players.
“Our Sky Blue reserve team is an important part of our club,” Sky Blue head coach/technical director Jim Gabarra said in a statement. “We are focused on continued development of local players and our club with this platform.”
Takayoshi Ishihara, who recently joined Sky Blue as the club’s new assistant coach, will manage the reserve team on a daily basis. Sky Blue sees both a climate of “continuity throughout the program” and a “professional atmosphere for the players,” citing the relationship with Ishihara and the reserve team development.
A couple of weeks ago, when Sky Blue announced that Ishihara would be joining the organization, Gabarra said:
“Sky Blue FC is fortunate to have the opportunity to add Taka to our technical staff. He will provide the club with a tremendous work ethic, experience, and a different coaching perspective that will certainly enhance our player and club development.”
“First, I want thank the head coach, Jim Gabarra, and Sky Blue FC, for giving me an opportunity to be a part of the program. For me, this opportunity is a challenge, and yet a chance to become a greater coach. I am excited to work with world-class players and staff, and I promise to work hard for the club.”
The reserve team will have its own training and game schedule, as well as opportunities to be called up and train with the professional team. They will also compete against other NWSL reserve teams or top-level clubs in the region.
“We are excited to have an organized reserve team program this season,” Sky Blue president/general manager Tony Novo said in a statement. “As the only professional women’s soccer team in the area, we are thrilled to offer this exclusive development opportunity to local players and look forward to growing the game throughout the region.”
Details regarding tryouts will be released at a later date, but for more information regarding the Sky Blue FC Reserves, please contact Dave Jones at email@example.com.
