Setting the Pre-Game Scene: Thunder vs. Akron 4/23
(TRENTON) The Trenton Thunder used the heroics of a Dan Fiorito bases-clearing triple with two-outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out a 4-3 in game two of a four-game series with the Akron Rubberducks at Arm & Hammer Park.
Trenton finds themselves winners of seven of their last nine games and will hand the ball to Zach Nuding tonight in game three of their series with Akron. Nuding is 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA after his first three starts of the season. The 23-year old Nuding is coming off his best outing of the year after pitching a complete-game seven-inning shutout on the road in Akron in game two of a double-header last week which paced Trenton to a 1-0 victory that afternoon.
The Thunder made a roster move just minutes ago, adding pitcher Graham Stoneburner from Triple-A Scranton. To make room, Trenton removed pitcher Cole Kimball from the roster and transferred him to Staten Island. The 26-year old Stoneburner had pitched in three games for Scranton this season, posting a 2.00 ERA in nine innings pitched. Stoneburner has pitched in 45 career games for the Thunder spanning 2011-2013 when he pitched to a 4-6 record and a 4.24 ERA.
“I’m here because I was assigned to the Double-A Trenton team,” explained Stoneburner. “I was told that I will be pitching out of the bullpen.”
Top prospects shall rest: Thunder Manager Tony Franklin is giving catcher and Yankees top-prospect Gary sanchez the night off from behind the plate with an early morning game looming tomorrow. Akron is rest their shortstop and Indians top-prospect Francisco Lindor tonight.
SP-Zach Nuding (1-0 2.89 ERA)
SP-Will Roberts (2-1 3.80 ERA)
