Pitman, NJRamapo College senior outfielder Rob DeAngelis (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) and The College of New Jersey junior shortstop Zachary Shindler (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) have been named the Bill Dioguardi NJAC Baseball Co-Players of the Year for the 2017 season. Their selections highlighted the 37-member 2017 NJAC Baseball all-conference team which was announced on May 3. All selections were made via a vote of the league’s 10 head coaches and were based on conference-only statistics.

The selection of DeAngelis marks the second straight season that a Roadrunner has garnered league Player of the Year honors. In NJAC competition, he led the league in conference-only runs (21), conference-only hits (29), and conference-only total bases (41). DeAngelis also ranked second in both conference-only batting average (.408) and conference-only slugging percentage (.577).

He also finished his junior NJAC season ranked third in conference-only runs (19), conference-only hits (26), conference-only RBI (19) and conference-only total bases (39).

A Week 8 NJAC Pitcher of the Week selection, he finished conference play as the league-leader in both conference-only ERA (0.40) and conference innings pitched (45.0). He also produced league-leading totals in both conference-only strikeouts (40) and conference-only victories (5).

TCNJ junior right-hander Matt Curry (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was selected as the league’s Fireman of the Year – an award presented to the conference’s top relief pitcher. In NJAC play, Curry ranked second in both conference-only saves (5) and conference games finished (10). He also finished third in both NJAC pitching appearances (10) and league games pitched in relief (10).

Kean University freshman outfielder Frank LoGuidice (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) was tapped as the NJAC Rookie of the Year, marking the second time in the past three seasons that a Cougar freshman has garnered the top rookie honor. A Week 10 NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, LoGuidice led the NJAC in conference-only hitting (.412) while ranking seventh in conference-only on base percentage (.466).

The College of New Jersey’s head coach Dean Glus was named the Jeff Albies NJAC Coach of the Year by his peers. Selected to finish fourth in the NJAC preseason coaches’ poll, Glus has led the 2017 Lions to a 27-10 overall record and the NJAC regular season championship via a 15-3 mark in league play. Now in his 10th year at the helm of the TCNJ program, Glus has guided the Lions to an overall record of 242-161-1.
