From New York to Vegas, Jess Lockwood shines at PBR
It’s official and it happened in Vegas. Jess Lockwood has become the youngest winner of PBR World Championship. He’s 22 years old for those who are counting and he is in fact the youngest ever to take home the crown at the World Finals in Las Vegas. He’s also a million dollars richer than he was just a few weeks ago.
The $1 million bonus was awarded this past Sunday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada amidst the Monster Energy girls and a crowd of fans from near and far who flew to Vegas to take in the festivities. Of course, for those of us who got to see Lockwood last January 2017, at Madison Square Garden, this championship has come as no surprise.
Lockwood is impressed with his winnings which total over $1.5 million dollars but more impressed with the shiny belt buckle, which he says, “will be with me forever.”
While Lockwood was the successor of the world title victory, it was Jose Vitor Leme of Brazil who was the champion of the Vegas event, and the best bull for 2017 went to SweetPro’s Bruiser owned by D&H Cattle Co/Buck Cattle Co.).
Heading into the final stretches of the 2017 PBR season were Derek Kolbaba, Eduardo Aparecido, Cooper Davis and Kaique Pacheco. Lockwood took the lead in Round 2 on Thursday night, and it was pretty much smooth sailing from that point on. For those of you who do not follow PBR, the world title is based on points earned throughout the 10 month regular season, similar in a way NASCAR has their point system and their chase.
