Mo & Cano Snub Alex Rodriguez
Anyone who’s ever had a face lit up by a smartphone in the past month knows of the infamous ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Anyone who has ever heard the name Alex Rodriguez knows he loves the warmth of the spotlight & anyone who knows of both subjects probably also knows Alex has filmed his ice challenge video.
On August 20, 2014, the former golden boy of baseball turned sideshow clown decided to take on said ice bucket challenge. Inside the dugout of Miami University, where he is also a member on the board of trustees, Alex would film his acceptance.
Although A-Rod failed to mention exactly who nominated him, (NO ONE), he was not as shy about dropping the names (as usual) of his nominees. While A-rod took the liberty of blurting five big names, two extremely high profile candidates have grabbed everyone’s attention. Former Yankee second baseman Robinson Cano & Yankee great, Mariano Rivera had the honor of being nominated by the most hated man in baseball. A 24-hour window to complete the task traditionally accompanies the challenge, in that case both nominees are about 300 hours overdue.
Cano and Rivera have both not since commented on being mentioned by Rodriguez, (as expected) and it seems to be the smart play.
Why, during his 211 game suspension would A-rod drop relevant names in baseball for an ice bucket challenge? Does he think no one else challenged them? It remains unclear, but one thing you can always count on is that Alex does miss the camera.
Perhaps next time there is a trending name dropping contest he’ll be more clever about it, rather than wishful. Nominate Commissioner Bud Selig or DR. Anthony Bosch, at the very least we can all share a giggle. It beats all the head scratching and nose picking.
