Melo’s Days in New York Could be Numbered?
A playoff spot for the New York Knicks is looking more unlikely as the games go by. The Knicks have had impressive wins on the road against Boston and Indiana recently, only to follow it up by losses the next game. The Knicks are just too inconsistent to make any real run at the playoffs.
The only reason the Knicks have some hope for making the playoffs is because they play in the East. In the East, you have the Cavs in the top spot, and then maybe Toronto and Boston, then the rest of the spots are up for grabs.
I’ve said that the Knicks best and most logical option is to trade Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks can never truly rebuild with both him and Derrick Rose on this team. They need to make Kristaps Porzingis their number one option and build around him. On top of that, Willy Hernangomez is looking better and better as the season goes on and needs to play more minutes. The Knicks need to build around these two young players.
But even if the Knicks and Phil Jackson do find a trade they want, Melo still has the last word because of the trade clause in his contract. So my gut feeling is telling me that the only two places he would be willing to get traded to are the Los Angeles Clippers or the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Knicks apparently already offered a trade proposal of Melo for Kevin Love. The Cavs rejected the offer. The Cavs and LeBron James are looking for the extra playmaker to help them get over the top to help them potentially compete against the Golden State Warriors in the finals. Melo could be that guy.
Just because the Cavs rejected it, I don’t believe this will be the last rumor you hear about Melo in trade talks. So Melo’s days in New York could be coming to an end very soon.
