Kean Drops Third Straight, Falls to No. 19 Salisbury
The slide continues for Kean University football.
Junior running back Brian Matthews had a three-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and junior running back D’Wan McCrary added a one-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to pace Kean in a 36-14 loss to No. 19 Salisbury University at Sea Gull Stadium in Salisbury, Maryland.
Salisbury (6-1, 5-1 NJAC) dominated the game on the ground with 55 carries and 457 yards, marking the fifth time this season that the Sea Gulls had more than 400 rushing yards in a game.
Junior quarterback Tyler Rodriguez completed 10 of 22 passes for 151 yards and added 10 carries for 43 yards for Kean (3-4, 2-4 NJAC), which has dropped three straight games.
Freshmen wide receivers David Patterson, Jr. and Jordan Smith each had four receptions for 56 yards apiece for the Cougars.
Junior Ryan Kolb led Salisbury’s rush attack with 14 carries, 184 yards and one TD and senior Connor Canonico added 17 carries for 129 yards with one TD.
Senior linebacker Robert Meade III had a game-high 12 tackles, while senior linebacker Stephan Lewis added 10 tackles with a blocked field goal recovery for Kean, which returns to Alumni Stadium in Union Saturday to host Southern Virginia University at 1 p.m.
