Jersey native, Max Valles, and Virginia Host No. 7 UCLA to Open 2014 Season

Greetings from Charlottesville, Virginia where I am here to cover the opening game of the college football season between the host Virginia Cavaliers and the No. 7 (No. 5 in the DoubleGSports.com Top 25) ranked UCLA Bruins.
Before I preview this contest, I want to send a big shoutout to Rutgers University and Coach Kyle Flood for their exciting 41-38 win over Washington State. A big confidence booster as they head into a murderous schedule in the Big 10.
This weekend’s contest, will feature UCLA’s multi-talented Heisman Trophy candidate Brett Hundley and a Wahoo squad looking to reverse their fortunes from a miserable 2013 season where they only won two games.
A number of Tri-state players dot the UVA roster, however, strong side linebacker Max Valles (Sicklerville, NJ/St. Joseph’s HS and Fork Union Military Academy) will play a prominent role for the Virginia defense in trying to contain the talented Hundley, who passed for over 3,000 yards and rushed for nearly 800 yards in 2013.
Valles, a 6’5″ 240 sophomore, saw action in 10 of the 12 Virginia games in 2013; getting the starting nod in three, which included the season finale against ACC and in-state rival Virginia Tech. The rising sophomore had his best game against the Hokies as he was credited with six tackles.
Valles, who is a criminal justice major, is hoping to put the handcuffs on Hundley for UVA head coach Mike London and defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta.
Other local products on the Virginia roster who may see action against the Bruins include: Cody Wallace, OG (Moorestown,NJ/ Moorestown HS and Fork Union), Chris Brathwaite, OG (Brooklyn, NY/ Holy Cross HS) and Michael Guerci, MLB (Franklin Lakes, NJ/ Fork Union).
The game will be broadcast live by ESPN starting at 12 p.m on Saturday.
