Bump N’ Run w/ KT: Giants Continue To Lose, Jets Continue To Surprise

The Jets are the surprise team in the NFL while the Giants continue to be most disappointing team.

Sorry for the missed Bump N’ Run column last week. A week of being sick (and I’m not even talking last week’s Giants game) kept me out of commission. Anyway let’s get to the team that continues to astound with their ineptitude.

Giants Move To 0-4 After Loss In Tampa

What more can I say? The last two weeks showed the Giants’ offense finally start to click but in the process, the defense has begun to fall apart. Eli Manning scrambles for a touchdown run but Olivier Vernon gets hurt. It’s almost as if the New York Football Giants are snake bitten this season.

Sunday’s 25-23 loss to the Buccaneers was the Giants’ second consecutive last-second loss. The play calling is still questionable and why in the heck is Ereck Flowers still playing at left tackle? The running game is still non-existent, although Wayne Gallman may have played his way into more carries with his performance and the abundance of injuries at running back. But the blame goes to the defense who allowed 434 yards to a Tampa Bay team that is hardly an offensive juggernaut.

I will be at Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife. I said after Week 2 and I will say it again now. This week’s game against Chargers is a MUST-WIN. A loss on Sunday effectively ends the Giants’ season. At that point, fans of the team can focus on the Knicks and the Rangers because there is no reason to follow football until August.

The Jets Move To 2-2

The most surprising team in the NFL is the New York Jets. After Sunday’s 23-20 overtime win over the Jaguars at home, Gang Green stands at 2-2 after four games. For all the talk about the Jets tanking prior to the season, the players seemed to have not gotten the message.

Josh McCown, who was not even the Jets’ starting quarterback in the preseason, has played decently. Bilal Powell carried the load for New York with Matt Forte missing last week’s game. The defense, albeit against the skittish Blake Bortles, played well allowing just over 300 yards of total offense. Will the Jets make the playoffs? No, but they are playing like a team who is not thinking about the number one overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

By the way due to this stretch of games, Todd Bowles should receive a contract extension immediately. Based on what he had to work with going into the season, Bowles should probably go into the Football 0f Hall of Fame as well.
