Dooney and Bourke Launch New MLB Line of Handbags

by Elizabeth Francois | Posted on Monday, August 26th, 2013

In a market already saturated with designer handbags, how does a company create a new twist on their product, to create something fresh and exciting?

Well, designer Peter Dooney, the co-founder of Dooney and Bourke did just that by collaborating with Major League Baseball to create a collection of officially licensed MLB New York Yankees limited edition handbags.  Dooney and Bourke started in 1975 and branched out into the handbag business in 1981.  The company created a distinctive appearance to their handbags that eventually became their hallmark.

Fans and collectors of Dooney and Bourke will be delighted with the new graphic print that’s inspired by the Yankees uniform.  The new signature print is sporty and chic.  Bold graphics of the team’s Club logo, baseball paraphernalia, and the name “New York Yankees” are cleverly positioned on a white ground with thin blue stripes; the effect is whimsical and fun.  This new sporty line of bags is a perfect compliment to the trend of wearing sweat pants and high heels, which started in 2012 on the runways when designers began pairing up sweat pants with high heels.  The new signature bag is a must have for any Dooney and Bourke collector.

The line features five silhouettes, a round satchel, a dome satchel, a shopper, a cosmetic bag, and a clutch/wallet.  Princes range from $150.00 for the clutch/wallet to $225.00 for the shopper.

These limited edition bags are being sold exclusively at Yankee Stadium.  They can be found in the Home Plate Team Store, Women’s Team Store, New Era Flagship Store, 365 Team Store at Gate 6, and in kiosks located on the SAP Suite Level and Legends sections.

So, get your tickets and head out to Yankee Stadium and make a beeline for the new limited edition Dooney and Bourke MLB bags – and enjoy a great game while you’re there!

Just a thought with all that Boston has been through this year, I am hoping you’ll consider having Red Sox Dooney & Bourke bags that look every bit as cute as the NYY limited edition bags. Think how many buyers you would attract just on the basis of “Boston Strong”. The colors are attractive as well. Hoping, praying, needing one of these because they last forever and have so much meaning with Boston and their courage & strength this year! Thanks for the consideration.

    Dear Elizabeth:
That was fantastic to hear that you’ll try. The logos are just so precious and cute, not to mention the durability and fashion-sense of Dooney-Bourke. Thanks for taking the time out to post a reply. Your artistry and creativity are well-demonstrated. I bet you’ll have a very promising career.
    Thanks with kind regards,
    Julie

Hi, I just saw your Yankees bag on Macys.com and googled a red sox bag and landed here. Please consider making one. Red sox fans are devoted and loyal. The womenup here in New England are always looking for a stylish way to support our team. Perhaps a bag with all four of our teams on it. They all ROCK!!!

    • Hi Robin, You’ll be happy to know that Dooney & Bourke is coming out with a line of major league handbags including the Rex Sox. Sorry for the late response, but it took a while to get the info. The full line in being launched around March 31, 2014.

I LOVE Donney and Bourke! I have quite a few Dooney and Bourke bags in different fabrications. They are definitely all superior quality and will last me a lifetime. I agree with Julie’s comment above and would LOVE to see Boston or Red Sox styles offered!!! Dooney is THE BEST bag out there and the only bags I will carry! Keep up the great work Peter Dooney!!!

My wife has about twenty Doone purses and quite a few wallets. I didn’t know about the MLB purses. Is it possible to still get one or two?
