Dimitri Patterson Suspended Indefinitely By Jets

After disappearing from the New York Jets for two days, cornerback Dimitri Patterson returned on Sunday to discuss his future with Jets management. After hearing what Patterson had to say, the Jets suspended him indefinitely¬†for walking away from the team before Friday’s preseason game against the New York Giants.

Patterson, previously penciled in as a starting cornerback by the team, is having his disappearance from the squad investigated by the team, with the suspension better allowing the team to communicate with him and get the information they need. After this incident, it is entirely possible that Patterson will go from a starting cornerback to looking for a job once again.

While Jets general manager John Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan would not disclose what Patterson told them his reason for leaving the team was, Idzik did acknowledge the possibility that Patterson is not fully committed to the team and that his release is on the table at this point. If Patterson had a serious reason to step away from the team, one would think that Idzik or Ryan would have told reporters that he had a legitimate reason to do so, even if they didn’t divulge exactly what that reason was. Without them doing so, the questions will only continue to multiply until a resolution is achieved by the Jets.

This entire situation is terrible news for a Jets team that is already seeing injuries at the cornerback position and can use all of the bodies they can find at that spot on the field. Depending on the outcome of their investigation here, they may need to find another one via free agency.
