Connor Lade and Andres Flores Make Their Cosmos Debut

Despite a loss to the Carolina Railhawks this weekend, the Cosmos found a silver lining with the play from two new players. Midfielders Connor Lade and Andres Flores stepped on the pitch at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium Saturday evening for the first time wearing the famous green and white, finding pockets of success during a tough loss.

While bright spots are always brighter in a victory, the creative and exuberant play of both Lade and Flores could not be ignored. The athleticism and vision both players displayed will encourage both head coach Giovanni Savarese and fans alike about the future of the team.

Lade, on short-term loan from the New York Red Bulls, had a rough end to his club debut. The midfielder unfortunately had to exit the game in the first half with an apparent shoulder injury. While the injury and the loss made his inaugural match bittersweet, Lade shared his excitement to be part of the starting XI.

“I was ecstatic,” said Lade upon learning he had been selected to start. “I wanted to come in and make an impact from the beginning. Now, my first priority is getting this (injury) checked out, seeing how bad it is, moving on from there and getting back on the field.” The severity of Lade’s shoulder injury has yet to be determined.

Andres Flores, currently on loan from Salvadoran club Isidro Metapan, played the full 90, and thankfully walked away without an injury. Saturday was Flores’ first competitive match since June, and while he certainly put his brilliance on display, he has a ways to go before he is 100% fit.

After encouraging showings from both Lade and Flores, the Cosmos midfield looks promising for the forthcoming Fall Season.
