Cody Rhodes reportedly asked for his release from WWE

on

Cody Rhodes, who plays Stardust on WWE TV, made a few interesting tweets earlier today. After a cryptic tweet yesterday, he stated on his personal account that he has asked for his WWE release. This came off as a shock to many. It’s an interesting situation considering his wife Brandi (Eden) is an announcer with the company and his brother Dustin (Goldust) is involved in some capacity. If true, this would be a significant blow to the comapny.

The son of the late WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, Cody has done quite a lot in his short career in WWE. He went from teaming with veteran Hardcore Holly to making his first heel turn and joining The Legacy with Randy Orton and Ted Dibiase Jr. Cody truly broke out of his shell with his “Dashing” Cody Rhodes gimmick, and later on as the man with a broken face.

Lets not forget about his epic mustache and teamup/short feud with Damien Sandow. Team Rhodes Scholars, while highly underutilized, was a very entertaining team. With the recent release of Sandow, could we see a reunion of the two wrestlers? Now that would be awesome.

Teaming up with his brother Goldust against The Shield was one of the better storylines WWE had provided fans for quite some time. The duo put on great matches against the trio, with Cody at the forefront. He later transitioned to Stardust, a name that Dusty actually used early in his career. Although considered outplayed by most, Cody really brought that character to life. I give him credit for putting a lot into what was considered a dead-in-the-water gimmick. His last major role was a losing effort at WrestleMania 32 in a ladder match for the Intercontinental Title.

At only 30 years old, Cody could now be considered one of the top free agents in professional wrestling right now. It is unsure however if he will look to work immediately. He could just be taking a rest. I’m sure a return to the company would not be out of the question. Hopefully there will be more information as time goes, and Cody will have time to explain so his fans will know why he asked for his release.

Whatever the future holds for Cody, it must be comforting to know that he did it under his terms. The future looks bright for Cody, whatever he may be doing after. In the end, it’s his decision, and we should all respect that.

**One last thought: Maybe it is just an angle. If so, this is brilliantly done. A fan can dream can’t he?**
