BlueClaws Split Six Game Roadtrip

by Steven Bassin | Posted on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014

The Lakewood BlueClaws went on the road this past week to the states of North Carolina and Texas for a seven game road trip.  The BlueClaws were able to salvage a decent road trip and split the winnings 3-3 with a series win against the Hickory Crawdads and a series loss against the Kannapolis Intimidators.

During the road trip the BlueClaws saw some great things at the plate and on the mound from their players.  In his first appearance as a BlueClaw, starting pitcher Yoel Mecias pitched a gem for the BlueClaws in the 7-0 win over Hickory to start their road trip. Mecias pitched five solid innings giving up no runs on two hits and striking out seven.  Another big star in this game for the BlueClaws, was right fielder Dylan Cozens who hit two home runs to help Lakewood win the game. Cozens now has 13 home runs on the season.

Other great performances the BlueClaws saw at the plate were from infielders Mitch Walding and Zach Green.  They both had five RBIS during the road trip and were tied for most on the team during the trip.  Relief pitchers, Julio Reyes and Joey Denato, both earned wins in solid relief appearances for the BlueClaws. The both pitched three plus innings in relief with Reyes giving up no runs on no hit and truck out one while Denato gave up no hits and struck out four.

The BlueClaws, after this road trip. are now 11-20 in the second half of the season. Lakewood will now begin an eight game homestand starting on Wednesday afternoon against the Greenville Drive.

Road trip Note: The BlueClaws last game in their four game series on Monday against Kannapolis was postponed. The game will be played as part of a double header when Kannapolis comes to play in Lakewood on Sunday July 27, 2014.

Hi my name is Steven Bassin and I am happy to have an internship at Double G Sports this summer. I am currently going into my junior year at Fairleigh Dickinson University where I am majoring in Communications with a minor in Multimedia Journalism. I have been involved with sports my whole life. I am currently a college football player at Fairleigh Dickinson University, but also participated in baseball and wrestling in high school as well. I am big New York football Giants and New York Yankees, but I am most importantly a sports fan who follows every team or player for NFL,MLB,NBA, and Minor League Baseball. If you need any facts or information about a team or player in those sports I am the guy to ask. I can tell you where a player is from, to where he went to college, to even his strength & weaknesses on the field. I am really looking forward to being a part of Double G Sports this summer and can't wait to start writing about sports.
