When the New York Knicks were in Dallas Sunday night, JR Smith and Shawn Marion were lined up next to each other during a foul shot in the second quarter. Smith bent down and untied the shoes of Marion without him noticing. The TV cameras caught the action and so did the NBA.
After the league spoke with Smith and gave him a warning that things of this nature can’t happen again, Smith was back at his tricks Tuesday night.
TV cameras once again caught Smith bending down and trying to untie Greg Monroe of the Detroit Pistons shoelaces.
The NBA came out on Wednesday and fined Smith $50,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Since joining the Knicks (2011) JR Smith has now been fined for $105,000.
Smith came out on twitter and apologized saying, “Huge apologies to my team, to the league an most of all you the fans! #JRsmithsigningoff.”
JR Smith has not performed well on or off the court this season at all. After winning the 6th man award last season, Smith’s play has hurt the Knicks on both ends of the court.
Rumors swirled late Wednesday night that the Knicks might be looking to see what’s available on the trade market for Smith. Yahoo! sports reported that the Knicks are only trying to “scare” Smith to possibly spark some improvement in his game.
Mike Woodson just needs to simply bench him in crunch minutes especially when he is turning the ball over and not shooting well from the three point arc. Carmelo is getting the ball anyway late in the game so let Shumpert and Hardaway Jr. take the open shot if Melo gets doubled. I understand that Smith is not afraid of any situation to shoot and is considered a veteran on this team, but we can’t let him continue to hurt us and create distractions when this team needs to concrete on picking up wins.
The Knicks will be hosting the reigning NBA Champs, Miami Heat on Thursday night. Both teams will be “laced” up and ready for the nationally televised broadcast on TNT.
