The official list of allocated players for the 2014 National Women’s Soccer League is public.
Canadien midfielder, Jonelle Filigno, who graduated from Rutgers University in 2013 and was named American Athletic First Team All-Conference after helping RU cruise to first place, (only time in school history) is Sky Blue’s only new player (allocated) for the 2014 season.
“Jonelle is a great fit for Sky Blue FC,” stated Jim Gabarra, in an article on the clubs website. “We look forward to getting started with her on our roster.”
The other five players allocated to Sky Blue include: Christie Rampone, Jill Loyden, Kelley O’Hara from the U.S. National Team; Monica Ocampo from the Mexico National Team; and Sophie Schmidt from the Canada National Team.
“Our allocation of Ocampo, Schmidt, Filigno, Loyden, O’Hara, and Rampone, like last season, is a balanced and quality allocation,” said Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra. “This core, if healthy, gives us the ability to put Sky Blue FC back on the top of the table and be a factor in the NWSL Championship.”
No doubt, the allocation is outstanding and hopefully it will generate some attention for Sky Blue; the new season is set to begin on the weekend of April 13 and 14. Fortunately all three U.S. players will remain on the Sky Blue Roster (Jill Loyden, Kelley O’Hara and Christie Rampone). However, Loyden and O’Hara do need to recover from injuries and perform better this season. Ocampo led Sky Blue in scoring and was the best of the Mexican allocations; yet another factor we should be grateful for.
