New York Red Bulls and Swedish defender Markus Holgersson have mutually agreed to go their separate ways.
Holgersson joined New York in January of 2012 and made 63 appearances for the boys in blue since then. His time with New York was one of obvious growth – Markus started as a shaky defender who looked out paced and out of place as he let weak goals develop, and ended his stint in New York as the undisputed starting center back, a serious threat on set pieces, and even had filled in as captain for Thierry Henry on one occasion.
It is uncertain what New York plan to do with the new vacancy at center back.
We want to hear from you Red Bulls fans. Was this decision to release Holgersson so easily a good move for New York, a horrible decision, or just an inevitable parting of club and player? What would you like to see New York do to fill this gap in the center back?
