Coming off another home loss to the New Orleans Pelicans last night, the New York Knicks are now currently riding a nine game losing streak. This is the longest streak since 2006 when Larry Brown was running the show.
We are all beginning to sound like a broken record, but without any supporting cast and team defense, the Knicks will have trouble ending this long losing streak. As we are all awaiting the return of Tyson Chandler, a change needs to be made mentally that he is not there and we need to communicate as a team on the defensive end.
Iman Shumpert and Carmelo Anthony got into an argument after Ryan Anderson drilled a three-pointer. Melo was responsible for guarding Anderson, but Shumpert voiced his opinion and called out Anthony. Shumpert also seemed pretty upset in the next time out as the two were yelling at each other over that play.
Both Anthony and Shumpert gave little weight to the situation the day after the game. Shumpert called it, “defensive miscommunication.” Although things did not seem like that from the video, you have to wonder if that is why Shumpert was on the bench for most of the 4th quarter.
Kenyon Martin and Meta World Peace also got into a very intense argument before Sunday’s game against the Pelicans. Things got very intense between the two of them but the situation seemed to be settled by game time.
These sorts of early to mid season problems can occur when a team is going through as tough of a stretch as the Knicks are right now. This is where the Knicks can be missing a Jason Kidd and Rasheed Wallace of last season. Carmelo Anthony is being asked to be the leader on and off the court for the first time in his career.
Things won’t get any easier as the Knicks will face cross town rival, the Brooklyn Nets this Thursday at the Barclay Center.
