Manya Makoski has decided to retire from professional soccer; it’s unclear why she has made this decision. Makoski appeared in 20 games during the 2013 season with Sky Blue, and started in 19. She was a key part of Sky Blue’s season; she filled in for defensive midfielder Brittany Bock who spent much of the season with injuries. She also started and played the full 90 minutes in the team’s semifinal playoff against the Western New York Flash.
“She did such a great job for Sky Blue last season and we will have a hard time replacing her,” Sky Blue FC coach Jim Gabarra said in a statement released by the club. ”We all want to congratulate Manya on a successful pro career and wish her good luck in the next phase of her life.”
“I have been so blessed to have played soccer professionally,” Makoski said in the release. ”God has given me many lasting friendships, memories, and world-wide experiences through this amazing game. My decision to retire wasn’t an easy one but the right choice for me.”
She added: “I want to thank everyone with Sky Blue this past season for making my last professional season a special one. Good luck to Sky Blue in the 2014 NWSL season.”
