Montclair State Soccer Players Receive Weekly Honors

It was announced on Monday that freshman goalkeeper Michael Gonzalez, who is a Kenilworth native, was chosen as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week.
In his back-to-back starts, Gonzalez went 2-0, only allowing two goals. He made four saves in a 6-0 win over Brooklyn College, and had five saves in a 5-2 win against Rutgers-Newark.
He has already posted a 0.65 goals against average in just six games this season, including an .857 save percentage. Gonzalez currently leads the NJAC in both goals and saves.

Melissa Koster, who is a midfielder on the Montclair State soccer team, received some good news on Monday. It was announced that she earned the honor as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
The Yardville, NJ native led Montclair State to its ninth and tenth shutouts of the season. This included just three shots that were allowed in NJAC wins over both Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-Camden. The women’s soccer team leads the nation in goals against average and shutouts.
Koster also earned the honor of being Montclair State Athlete of the Week.
