Somehow sports fashion is emerging into a phenomenon without being a phenomena. We see it in the magazines, on posters and our computer screens everyday. I have had my share of challenges trying to truly understanding exactly what it is and how it’s being manifested into our lives. As such, I have surmised that a series of articles would best describe the firm standing success of a booming genre.
Sports fashion is a thing, now. Athletes being spotted at fashion shows to being on the covers of fashion magazines and even professing their interest in an independent clothing line of their own. It’s no coincidence that fashion moguls seek them out as viable clients and most importantly, business partners.
Retired English soccer star David Beckham is a shining example of what sports fashion is. His long standing deal with Swedish owned company H&M has made him an even more adored celebrity. His bodywear line has made millions and has been sold-out online and in-stores and it’s not just because they are comfortable and affordable, but because Beckham has become a beacon of a fashion inclined generation. He is alway dressed to impress when sighted on the streets or outings. His fashion designer wife, Victoria Beckham, by his side, is all the inspiration he needs to extend upon his inspiring legacy.
Another beacon in the spotlight is always well-dressed NBA icon Lebron James. When off the court, his outfits are talked about in every online sports and fashion blog and magazine, and they hit the Twitter and Facebook feed in a slam dunk. James, however, does not have his own sports clothing line, but a blossoming sneaker deal with Nike. The Lebron X has been in high demand and is surging toward to a carbon copy of excellence to Nike Air Jordans. Consequentially, it has been improved upon many a times over the course of 9 plus series. James can say that Jordan has nothing on him but an indisputable legacy that he is almost sure he can exact.
Essentially, sports fashion here is the enigma of men of sports venturing into the world of high fashion and the business aspect as well. Our love for sports and fashion are the open doors to the categorization of sports fashion into our everyday lives and the influence it has on our fashion choices. It’s inevitable. Ralph Lauren, Lacoste and many other top notch designing companies have already hit the runway with their sports inspired fashion collections. More notably, Ralph Lauren, who is a proud sponsor of this year’s US Open. Keep your eyes and minds open and embrace the innovation of this rising genre.
