Week 5 NFL Picks: Take it to the Bank
Added by James Dorsa on October 3, 2013.
Buffalo Bills +3.5 @ Cleveland Browns -3.5
After squeaking out a victory at home against a struggling defending championship Baltimore Ravens team, The Bills better realize there playing the premier AFC North team/quarterback this week in Ohio, no not the Bengals, yes Brian Hoyer and the newly energized Cleveland Browns. Hoyer cleaned up his turnover issue this week against Cincy and that Browns defense is stout.
Look for EJ Manuel to be forced to pass more than he would like to, with both Fred Jackson and Spiller banged up. This Thursday night game that sounded like a meaningless one in August may just have a playoff team emerge when two young quarterbacks on the rise meet for a showdown. I think Cleveland takes it via their third ranked defense in the NFL and Hoyer through the air against a beatable Buffalo Defense. If you’re a betting man, wouldn’t hurt to buy the point for the Browns.
Browns 27 Bills 23
KC Chiefs -3 @ Tennessee Titans +3
Chiefs are sitting pretty at 4-0. In a game that wound up a blowout they struggled offensively early on last week against a NY Giants Defense that has been abused like punching dummies this year. After getting off to a promising start behind Jake Locker, Ryan Fitzmagic takes the helms under center. Fitzpatrick can ball, but we will see what he can do against that KC front that will be pressuring him all day. Low scoring affair decided by a field goal, but I think the Chiefs stay perfect (that sounds so weird) under the Walrus aka Andy Reid over a much, much better Tennessee team.
KC Chiefs 20 Ten Titans 17
Bal Ravens +3 @ Miami Dolphins -3
Both coming off tough losses, who will be able to bounce back and who will continue slumping? Even though the Ravens are yet to win on the road this year, I think they win this game. If the Fins want to prove they can play with the big boys, here’s your chance the Ravens are coming to South Beach. Tight game here wouldn’t pick either of these teams in your suicide pool this week. Upset of the week.
Bal Ravens 23 Mia Dolphins 20
Jax Jaguars +11.5 @ St. Louis Rams -11.5
If Sam Bradford can’t get his new toys at wideout working against the Jags defense, then St. Louis, we have a problem. The Rams get a bounce back opportunity against the piñata of the NFL.
Rams 27 Jags 13
New England Patriots +1 @ Cincinnati Bengals -1
If you’ve been betting against Brady and Belichick since the year 2000, you’re probably homeless and starving, unless it’s a Super Bowl game against Eli and Coughlin. I think Cincy plays much better this week than last week’s 6 point showing against their cross town rival Browns, but I don’t want to be homeless and starving. The New England Brady’s stay perfect and sneak out of Cincy with a W.
Pats 23 Bengals 20
Seattle Seahawks -2.5 @ Indianapolis Colts +2.5
Seahawks are good, Colts just keep getting better, Luck vs. Wilson, NFC showdown, 2 teams destined for playoffs, I think Seattle’s defense slows Peyton Jr. (shh don’t tell him I called him that what a dis). Hawks leave Indy at 5-0, as long as they can shut down the run.
Seahawks 23 Colts 20
Detroit Lions +7 @ Green Bay Packers -7
Lions coming off a high scoring beat down over another NFC North rival Da Bears last week. Can they repeat in Lambeau? Ehhh I don’t see it. I think Green Bay gets back on track this week in a high scoring affair in Green Bay. Lions keep it close though. Buy the half point! Teaser? Could be a 7 point game…
Packers 34 Lions 27
New Orleans Saints even @ Chicago Bears even
Remember when you were 16 and you took your road test? You probably hit a cone doing figure eights or wound up on the sidewalk while parallel parking. Well this is the New Orleans Saints Road test, we know there stellar in their superdome. Judging by their Monday night performance over the formerly undefeated Dolphins, the Saints are the real deal having their play caller back in Sean Payton and Drew Brees playing at an elite level, even for himself. Da Bears are going to want to bounce back and regain their throne as king of the North after a road loss in Detroit. Going to be a high flying event at Soldier Field I think the Saints can do it away from home.

Philadelphia Eagles +2 @ NY Giants -2
The battle of the NFC Least, oh boy, someone has to win right? I’d like to say the Giants stop playing like a group 2 JV high school team this week, and play with some pride in front of their home crowd. Giants take this in a game that promises turnovers, penalties, sloppy plays, and 2 pretty bad teams.
Giants 31 Eagles 27
Carolina Panthers-1.5 @ Arizona Cardinals +1.5
Cam Newton dismantled the Giants, and then enjoyed a bye week. Was he filming commercials and playing video games, or watching tape on Patrick Peterson. Luke Kuechly is developing into one of the best linebackers in the NFL and I think the panthers overtake the Cardinals and there anemic offense in Arizona.
Panthers 24 Cardinals 16
San Diego Chargers -4.5 @ Oakland Raiders +4.5
The roller coaster QB that is Phillip Rivers is coming off an impressive come from behind victory over the Cowboys. 35-42 401 yards and three TD’s last week for Rivers. The Raiders are down to a third string tail back and coming off back to back losses. Two teams seemingly heading in opposite directions at this point in the early season. San Diego Super….. Stop. Chargers stay hot in this one.
Chargers 27 Raiders 17
Denver Broncos -7 @ Dallas Cowboys +7
5800 yards and 64 Touchdowns, that is the pace Peyton Manning is at. That will be my analysis until I am proven wrong on the Broncos.
Broncos 41 Cowboys 30
Houston Texans +6 @ San Francisco 49ers -6
49ers are going to win this game. I think the Texans have a tough week of practice after blowing a huge lead last week at home to Seattle. They keep it closer than people expect if they can run the ball effectively.
49ers 24 Texans 20
NY Jets + 9.5 @ Atlanta Falcons -9.5
You smell that? Seriously do you smell that? Yes I smell that it smells like the blowout of the week to me. Falcons are outplaying there 1-3 record and are within one score of every game they’ve lost. The teams they lost to by the way have a combined record of 11-1. This one will be out of reach for the Jets no matter who’s at QB. Is it Tebow time in Jet Nation again? Suicide pool pick for me this week—Falcons.
Falcons 27 Jets 13
