Siena: Crosstown Soccer Clash end in Saints Victory

With fall sports season in full swing, there was no bigger news on campus Wednesday evening than the Siena men’s soccer team’s dramatic defeat of crosstown rival UAlbany 2-1 in double overtime.
Nearly 2,000 spectators came to watch the capital region showdown, a number that included a strong representation of Saints fans, rallying to watch Siena’s third consecutive seasonal victory over the Great Danes.
Despite a difficult beginning, when UAlbany’s Thomas Manz headed in a goal to give the Great Danes an early lead, the Saints bounced back, returning scores from team captain James Beeston in the 72nd minute, and Junior Nate Olukanmi, who scored the game-winning goal in a second overtime.
The Saints look to keep their momentum going into their next non-conference game on Saturday, with a 1:00pm kickoff at UMass.
